Metropolitan cathedral of Athens – Monastiraki – Plaka

Vip Transfer Experiences proposes another special tour in the center of the capital with the first stop being the Orthodox Cathedral of Athens (popularly known as the Metropolis), which is dedicated to the Annunciation of Virgin Mary and is in Metropolis Square on the homonymous street. Its construction began in 1842 and was completed in 1862. The type of the church is cruciform three-aisled basilica with a dome. A few years after its completion it became the Metropolitan church of the capital of the Greek state in which many important religious ceremonies took place, such as weddings and funerals of kings, prime ministers, and dignitaries.

Next stops are Monastiraki and Plaka, the most touristic areas of Athens which  fascinate with their picturesque corners while giving history lessons. Monastiraki is a busy area with emblematic attractions such as the ruins of the Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Market of Athens and the restored ‘’Stoa of Attalos’’ which houses museum with Athenian exhibits.

Monastiraki is a flea market neighborhood and is one of the principal shopping districts in Athens. Visitor can find clothing boutiques, and souvenir shops. It is a major tourist attraction in Athens and Attica for bargain shopping. Streets are full of traditional restaurants and taverns, many of which overlook Acropolis. The alleys of Plaka that reach the rock of Acropolis, Anafiotika the neighborhood which give the impression that visitor is in an island, the shops with tourist items, create a perfect setting for endless walks.
