Acropolis Museum
Acropolis Museum, one of the most important in the world, includes unique masterpieces, mainly original works of archaic and classical Greek art, which are directly connected to the sacred rock of Athenian Acropolis. These are votive sculptures, sets of architectural sculptures that adorned the building in various historical periods on Acropolis.
The museum was built to house every object found on the sacred rock of Acropolis, covering a wide period from the Mycenaean period to Roman and Early Christian Athens while at the same time it is located on the archeological site of Makrigianni, a remnant of Romans and Byzantine Athens southeast of Acropolis. It is 300 meters from Acropolis and about 2km from Syntagma square. The entrance of the museum is located at the beginning of Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, the central axis of the archeological sites of the city. The museum relies heavily on natural lighting, as it mainly presents sculptures that require different lighting conditions from other types of museums.
